SoundFont Banks
Dave Purnell - Congrats - a
lovely piece of work.
Warren Prasek - WOW. fantastic
job! No regrets about buying them... top quality - love your work. Let me know
when your next masterpiece is ready ... Top quality gear you're putting out.
Definitely worth it ... I've long been a fan ...
Claude Kaber - Using Basic Waveforms like
Sine, square triangle... as samples, transforms your soundcard into a
"vintage synthesizer". That's a simple discovery. However it needs real
mastery and an awful lot of work to get as fantastic sounding results
as in vintage-dreams. In addition to the many great synth sounds, you
have a package of electronic drum kits. Vintage dreams sure has the best
Value/Download factor of all SoundFont® Banks available on the Net. Bravo.
Simon - This is an unbelievable
SoundFont® Bank! There are trillions of sounds, and each very versatile for
just about any form of synth music, from Synthpop, Rock, Techno, to House,
Trance, and Electronica. I was totally flabbergasted when I
downloaded what seemed like a puny SoundFont® Bank (314Kb!), only to find
many, many, monster sounds inside it. It truly astounded me, and the
fact that this SoundFont® Bank is freeware is even more amazing. How can
anyone argue against the use of it? Here you have 314Kb worth of
instrumentation which sounds (at the very least) like an 8Mb vintage SoundFont® Bank. The sheer number of sounds alone is daunting to get through,
and there are many really excellent instruments here. The SoundFont® Bank is a
great mix of quantity and quality - something not very often encountered
on the web. And for free!?? On the downside, the SoundFont® Bank has a very
non-stereo presence to it. Even hard-pans don't seem to shove an
instrument to the left or right speaker. A small price to pay ... This SoundFont® Bank has breathed new life into my music, and definitely
piqued a
seriously lagging interest. On the whole, anyone would be crazy not to
have this SoundFont® Bank permanently loaded into their RAM!
Jim Heikkila - Really good. Capable of adding
diversity to any musician's sound.
Seth - No joke! I don't know why, but
I would like to have more of this. Even though this is all I'll need for
synth sounds I see now that there is more potential with a synth than
just a flat saw wave. Get it if you're a real musician! And if you're not,
you'll learn.
Alex Pomeranz - Small, but has a great
diversity of sounds. One of the best I've heard.
Varick - Hey, I don't even like synth
sounds ... I do much more arranging of orchestral music, or pop/Broadway
music. But I figure "What the heck, I could use a good set of synth
sounds." There is some GREAT stuff in here. This is the best
collection I've heard ... and for 400k or whatever it is, it sounds
incredible.
Guy - Why the hell does
everybody
like this one? All the instruments are weird. They don't sound at all
like the instrument they are supposed to.
Shane - Definitely, the reviewer who
said that this sucks is not the guru in contemporary electronic music.
This SoundFont® Bank sounds EXACTLY like it is supposed to, its not simulating
any acoustic instruments, but it contains lots of awesome FM samples,
synth drum sounds, etc etc. I've used it successfully for several
projects, as it provides atmosphere and texture. With a bit of editing
and tweaking, the possibilities are endless. I also visited the author's
website to find lots of extra information, more SoundFont® Banks and an
excellent piece of FM sound software. Check it out!
James N - Look, I've tried other of the
same of this kind of SoundFont® Bank, but some of my music on the Page 1's
Vintage Dreams SF2, IT WAS OUT OF TUNE!!! WHY????
Gort - This
SoundFont® Bank is first-rate,
it has a wide variety of sounds, and there's no glitches from bad loops,
and no naff sounds. It's so good because the author obviously knows what
he's doing and he has clearly spent a lot of time making it right. I'm
very impressed with the quality of the work here, and you should
download it without hesitation, you'll be glad you did. And for the
moaners - ok, one instrument is 6 semitones out, but just hit the
transpose button on Cubase and it's sorted. Now download it!
Pasi Ahola - This
SoundFont® Bank has a lot of
patches, and I think the most useful are the various synth basses, among
which you can most probably find THE ONE for your music (not for those
seeking for very realistic basses, however!) You may have to adjust the
releases a bit to get your funky, groovy (a bit release) or house style
basses (almost no release) out of these. Thanks to the author for this
great piece of work!
Todd Eaton - If you haven't heard these
banks already, dare to be impressed! I started having high school angst
all over again! (That was in the mid-80s for all you youngsters out
there.)
Astral Works, Inc. - This is pure retro synth
pleasure for your SoundFont® Bank capable devices. Unbelievable!
Roger
Lewau - Loads of good all analog synthesizers from the 80's.
HammerSound
- The most popular SoundFont® Bank on HammerSound. "... latest month (July) at an
average of 300 downloads a day. The most popular SoundFont is Ian Wilson's Vintage Dreams
Waves with 2,500 downloads."
Live!
Center - Lots of very good basic synth sounds. Good and memory
saving.
Steve - This is an amazing SoundFont® Bank ... the best value you will ever
get (5 stars).
Subjammer
- This is incredible. As someone who has 512Mb of ram, I can afford the huge fonts, but sometimes it's gems like this ... which make me think who
really needs the 100Mb fonts? I've never been one of those who hunts the synth
fonts, but this one is definitely great for when you need that something
different to make your music sound different. And for those who say it
doesn't sound like a real instrument, you miss the point entirely.
Gosh - And now,
I want to express deepest gratitude to Ian Wilson, creator of gorgeous Techno
Drums SoundFont® Bank, which I used. He also compiled lots of other extremely Magic
useful SoundFont® Banks ...
BorgStation - I
have to recommend these to anyone, especially if you've got the taste for early
80's synth or pop music by artists like Yazoo or Depeche Mode. Vintage Dreams
includes emulations like the TR808, TR909 and many other analogue and electronic
sounds. And can you believe the size ... but don't forget to pay your respect to
the author, Ian Wilson.
Henrik Lagercrantz
- This soundfont really gets the creative juices going! I got very
inspired by the clean, strong sounds on this compilation. Download it now!
xhrek - It is
indispensable for electronic music lovers. Don't see any other so good.
SY-77
Scott Entenman -
I like that they weren't dripping with effects like most stuff you get
commercially for the 77's ... A lot of sounds I never thought I'd hear
coming from that box! Killer basses! Most of the sounds tend toward techno
and retro which are not my cup but I found a handful that I loved and
immediately incorporated into my staple bank.
John L - I just
love your patches. I'd give Analog Dreams a rank of number 1. I have a
Roland JV-880 with the Vintage Synth expansion chip/card and I believe the
Dreams patches are more robust and have more harmonic character ...
Simon - I was
amazed at the sounds coming out of my SY77 when I loaded these patches.
They are full, fat and very powerful. There is an excellent selection and
can probably stand up to any other synth's sounds. The FAQ on sending
SYSEX via Cakewalk was also very helpful. Wonderful, thank you for
providing me with these awesome sounds! ... I also have to say that they
are very reasonably priced and the download within 24 hours is also a
great way of doing it.
